Cadillac Chief Engineer Brandon Vivian was asked by a listener if the automaker was able to make a business case for a wagon version of the 2020 Cadillac CT5-V, its new midsize performance saloon. This kind of question is usually answered with a paragraph of purposefully non-committal buzzwords about “enthusiasm” and “branding.” But surprisingly, Vivian didn’t totally rule it out.

“So I will tell you, I’ve been looking at that many, many, many times... nothing to announce right now, but certainly, when you see the enthusiasm of our customers, and when I’m out there talking to our customers, to our V-Lab—to our !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! members—there is an absolute fanaticism around the V wagons, and wagons in general. So because of that, we continue to study a future variant.”

Sounds like this guy is at least part enthusiast himself.

If Cadillac follows through with their plan to enter the next decade as an EV brand, and they market the wagon correctly as one of the last of the high performance internal combu stion Cadillacs, I think there could be a business case there.

They’ll sell hardly any of them like last time.

However, they should still make it due to the buzz it creates with the enthusiasts. If all the journalists/car buffs continuously praise the brand because of the wagon, there should be an impact on sales among the general public. Since this is very difficult to measure, I feel as though this strategy of marketing gets discounted very hard by the accounting department.

Oh please please make it Cadillac-man! I will buy one ... and an electic wagon would sell too. The packaging would work.
